2016 Corrections Directions Newsletters

The Corrections Directions Newsletter is an information sharing newsletter of the Association of State Correctional Administrators.  Below is a list of newsletters published during 2016:

  • January/February 2016 Corrections Directions Newsletter - This edition of Corrections Directions highlights the 2016 ASCA Summer Business and Committee Meetings held January 21-24, 2016 in New Orleans, LA.  In addition, updates on legislative affairs for January 2016, an overview of some of the surveys conducted in 2015, and Part 3 of a continuing series on Use of Force and Facility Characteristics based on information from the Performance Based Measures System are included.
  • Spring 2016 Corrections Directions Newsletter – This edition of the newsletter, highlights the new developments with solitary confinement and we also address that in 2016, we anticipate an increase in legislative efforts by many states to restrict the use of drones near our prisons.  ASCA would like to introduce seven of our newest members by sharing their bios, give you an overview of some of the surveys conducted in 2016, and give you some updates on legislative affairs for March 2016.
  • Summer 2016 Corrections Directions Newsletter - National Reentry Week was recognized from April 24-27, 2016.  During this week, various facets of federal and state governments looked at ways to reduce barriers to reentry and employment, which are outlined in our feature article.  We are also sharing a story about the federal probation department in Eastern Missouri, who has become a model for other state and federal re-entry programs nationwide.  ASCA would like to introduce you to its two newest members, provide you some updates on legislative affairs and PBMS, and give you an overview of some recent surveys conducted in April and May of 2016.  A brief overview of the Seminar for Recently Appointed Directors, which was held June 23-26, 2016, is also shared.
  • Late Fall 2016 Corrections Directions Newsletter (Scholarship Edition) - This edition of Corrections Directions identifies the recipients and dornors for the 2016 Susan M. Hunter Scholarship Award.  A Summary of the 2016 ASCA Summer Business and Committee Meetings and ASCA Symposium for Correctional Administrators are provided.  Announcements of the 2016 Louis Wainwright Award, Francke Award, and Tom Clements Award recipients are named.  This edition also provided you with survey results from the months of May and June, as well as an update on legislative affairs and PBMS participation.  Co-Executive Directors Camille & George Camp also provide some parting remarks.
